Related to Burma Teak, this hardwood grows naturally and plentifully in the Pacific Rim countries, making it considerably less expensive than teak. Because shorea is dense, heavy, and hard, and contains an abundance of natural oils, it is highly resistant to rot, bug infestation, weather, and marring.
About Shorea Wood and Linseed Oil
Shorea is possibly the best wood choice for outdoor furniture. Related to Burma teak, this hardwood grows naturally and plentifully in the Pacific Rim countries. Because shorea is dense, heavy, and hard, and contains an abundance of natural oils, it is highly resistant to rot, bug infestation, weather, and marring. Shorea (red lauan) wood will have variations is color - from a red to a yellow cast.
The Shorea wood for this item is treated with linseed oil. Linseed oil is not a varnish. The oil soaks into the pores of the wood leaving a shiny (not glossy) surface that shows off the grain of the wood. Linseed oil helps protects the wood from denting by compression and from accelerated deterioration.
After assembly simply wipe the bench with a damp cloth to remove any excess oil that may be remaining. Please note that it is recommended to let your bench sit outside for 2-3 days before sitting on it to let the stain air out and completely dry.

We recently had to dismantle and throw out a kids' jungle gym that came with our house because the wood was rotting and it was getting dangerous. After it was gone I realized I missed the swing set portion of it and decided to search for a porch swing with a frame, something for adults to swing the time away. I couldn't be happier with the one I purchased from Hayneedle!

We live in the southwest dessert so the sun and heat gets pretty strong. But, the wood faded after only 1 month which in my opinion is quite fast. Other than the poor finish, the swing is sturdy. The chains were so long that the seat was only 1 ft. off the ground. So to raise it, you have to loop the chain around the fastener, but the only problem is the fastener that comes with it is too small to allow you to loop the chain. If you buy this, I would recommend you put a protectant coating on it asap. Also you will have to buy another fastener for about $10-20.

The swing set arrived well packed; there was no scratch or damage to the wood. Assembly is easy, but do follow instructions especially at the top bar and support arm post. The color and material of the wood fit our patio perfectly. The swinging motion is smooth, but it is not design for heavy swinging. Aggressive swinging motion will cause the A-frame to skip.
About assembly - The top bar slanted edge is parallel with the A-frame leg, and it's easy to get it in reverse. Install one end of the frame completely first using the top bar to support, and then finish off the other side. Don't tighten the bolts and nuts until the whole frame has been assembled.
The support arm post could easily be mounted backward, which will not allow the long eye bolt to come through. I found that loosely tightening the front and back eye bolts will help determine if the post is mounted correctly to the swing.
Lastly, if the swing is crooked with respect to the frame, check the hanging chain. Count the number of links for each one and make sure they are all the same number of links. I measured them before installation, and they are the same length, but not the same number of links. Consequently, it took a while for me to figure this out. Hopefully this will save you time troubleshooting this problem.
I bought the Porch Swing Hanging Kit, which consists of hooks and springs... it turns out I only need the springs because the hooks will not fit on the top bar. The springs add cushion especially when seating down or standing up. So don't bother getting the hooks if you have the frame.
Hayneedle refunds me the cost of the hooks; Customer service was pretty nice about that. Overall, excellent purchase.

I bought this swing to place on my back patio. So far my wife and I really love the swing. It did come with one rather large scratch on the seat and some of the screws were not screwed in at all. Other than that though, I would definitely recommend the swing.
The stand seems very sturdy so far.
