About Shorea Wood and Linseed Oil
Shorea is possibly the best wood choice for outdoor furniture. Related to Burma teak, this hardwood grows naturally and plentifully in the Pacific Rim countries. Because shorea is dense, heavy, and hard, and contains an abundance of natural oils, it is highly resistant to rot, bug infestation, weather, and marring. Shorea (red lauan) wood will have variations is color - from a red to a yellow cast.
The Shorea wood for this item is treated with linseed oil. Linseed oil is not a varnish. The oil soaks into the pores of the wood leaving a shiny (not glossy) surface that shows off the grain of the wood. Linseed oil helps protects the wood from denting by compression and from accelerated deterioration.
After assembly simply wipe the bench with a damp cloth to remove any excess oil that may be remaining. Please note that it is recommended to let your bench sit outside for 2-3 days before sitting on it to let the stain air out and completely dry.
Shorea is strong and weather-resistant enough to be left untreated. If left untreated, each piece will weather to a nice shade of gray. The weathering process will change the color, but the grain will still be smooth. You may treat each piece with linseed oil to prolong weathering. Each piece is durable, classic, and elegant.

I use this for a 5' heavy-duty swing constructed from Louisiana cypress wood. I got this on sale, but after using would have bought this at the regular price. The frame is sturdy and should give years of use. The only negative was that I broke one of the bolts during assembly, but I have lots of bolts.

Had to go buy other bolts. We knew by reading other reviews the hardware could be an issue and it was. Never-the-less it is still a really good value for the money, wish they'd update the directions and get better hardware! then this would be a truly phenomenal product with phenomenal reviews

Swing stand is not bulky but appears to be very sturdy and color works well with color of swing. Shipping was amazingly fast, received within two days. Not difficult to assemble but does require two people.

This was a Mother's Day gift for my mom. She already had a swing that my dad had made for her many years ago but we had no place to hang the swing. Our covered patio is very small and the leg span of this frame was small enough for our patio to accommodate. Very sturdy and looks good too!
