Shorea is possibly the best wood choice for outdoor furniture. Because shorea contains an abundance of natural oils, it's dense, heavy, and hard, and it's highly resistant to rot, bug infestation, wear, and marring.

It arrived quickly and went together pretty easily (I did it on my own)--all the parts were there and the instructions were clear.
I wish it had been packed with at least a little padding as the front of the seat apron had a noticeable chunk broken out of it from being banged around during shipping (minus a star). Anyway, I've seen these for quite a bit more elsewhere so I am happy I found this here at a price I could afford. It is the perfect size for my porch.

Although the instructions only had very basic pictures and no text, the assembly of my new shorea wood swing was pretty easy. All tools were included except a Philips-head screw driver, which the instructions called for but which was in fact not needed. There is a lot of literature on shorea wood for outdoor furniture, but it is very contradictory. Some sites describe it as teak's equal, and some describe it as below average for outdoor use. I suspect this is because many different species are called shorea. This bench comes from Vietnam, so I suspect the wood comes from there. By the light weight and dryness of this wood (teak gets its weathering ability from its density and oily nature), I am pretty confident when I say it will not weather like teak -- but then again, I didn't pay the price of teak. So, it looked nice when assembled and was very comfortable until my wife sat down next to me, and the center support cracked -- right through. And neither my wife nor I are heavy. The problem was not the design, but rather the support piece had a large knot, right at the center and most vulnerable spot. I am a woodworker, and it was pretty easy to fashion a replacement (this time twice the size of the original), and the swing is now really comfortable AND strong. So, I don't know if I can recommend the bench to others. I am sure Porchswings.com would have replaced it for me, but that would have been one large hassle.

Our bench arrived in good time. However the box did not contain any directions for assembly or care and the hardware was loose in the box causing some slight topical damage to the bench. Some hardware was missing. We love the bench and the wood, but wish the company would pack it better. Hayneedle was VERY responsive to our concerns and even offered us a small refund for our trouble.

The box was missing two nuts and a screw. I replaced them with hardware store material, but should not have had to do so. The allen wrench provided was bent and destroyed by the effort of screwing in screws provided with the unit. If I did not have an extra allen wrency to destroy in the effort, I would not have been able to complete assembly with the materials provided.
The swing arms detached from the bearing on which they swing. I just slipped the arm back on the bearing, but there is no nut or other constraint to keep it on. Hence, any satisfaction I have in the glider is only until I can't keep the arm attached to the bearing. Well, it the glider part breaks, I can still use it as a stationary bench, though my wife paid for a glider. ARGH.

Poor packaging. Hardware was loose inside box with some parts missing. Glider is of below average construction and substantially overpriced (even considereing it was on sale). If I had it to do over, I would not purchase.

The glider went together easily with 2 people working on it--I'd say an hour altogether. It looks very nice and glides easily and quietly. The only thing that kept my review from being a 5 star was that 8 necessary nuts were not included in the box. My husband had to go to the hardware store to get them. A plus, however, was that the distributor gave us a rebate for our trouble.

Our glider arrived in record time, just for Memorial Day! It was missing 4 nuts, so it got put together wrong to begin with and didn't glide very easily. After reviewing the installation diagram, we discovered it was missing some parts and went to the local hardware store. That was quicker than waiting for the parts to be shipped. After we fixed that problem, the glider glides like a dream. It isn't good for long periods of sitting without a cushion. The back is straight and would be a little more comfortable if the design leaned it back a little. With a cushion it is fairly comfortable to sit on. With a pillow for your head, if your short, it is very nice to lay down and nap on. It seems to be fairly well made and looked just like the picture. For our deck and sitting out in the evening, I'd purchase it again.
